Can electric bikes be stored outside?
It depends on the local climate.
1. Warm and dry
If you live in a warm climate, then you may choose to store your ebike outside. However, you should still take precautions. Make sure to cover your ebike with a tarp or some sort of shade cloth to protect it from the sun. Also, you should ensure that your ebike does not get wet. Water can destroy your battery and cause corrosion to your frame.
2. Warm and humid
If you're putting your e-bike in a warm and humid environment, moisture protection is a top priority. If you park for a long time, it is recommended to remove the battery and put it in a dry place. The interface of the wire can be wrapped with waterproof tape to avoid rust. Clean up water and rust when using again.
3. Cold and dry
Lithium batteries should not be left in cold environments for long periods of time, if you insist on leaving the e-bike outside, take the battery out and bring it into a warm home and cover the e-bike with something.
4. Cold and humid
If you live in a cold and humid environment, it is not recommended to store your e-bike outside. Cold and humid environments can shorten the life of lithium batteries and have a bad effect on cells and displays. If you ride an electric bike in cold and wet conditions, you should clean your bike regularly. Dirt and grime build up on your bike and can cause damage to your motor.
